According to the team, the Carolina Hurricanes and forward Seth Jarvis have agreed to an 8 year, $63.2 million contract.

Jarvis entered the offseason as an RFA, and though it took longer to get a deal done, it got done ahead of training camp. He was the last RFA who remained unsigned by the team, and the deal he got is a rather unique one.

The AAV of the deal would've been $7.9 million usually, but the Hurricanes deferred money until July 1, 2032, the day after the contract expires, to lower the cap hit. The money will be paid as a signing bonus that day. As such, he'll now make $7.5 million annually and $29.24 million of the salary will be in signing bonuses.

Because of the deferred money and unique structure of the contract, the NHL Central Registry and NHLPA both signed off on the contract terms ahead of the announcement. The last 4 years of the contract also have a modified no trade clause in the form of a 20 team no trade list. The signing bonus he'll be paid in 2032 is just over $15 million.

Hurricanes GM Eric Tulsky said in a statement "Seth is a cornerstone player for our franchise. He took another huge step last season, playing in all situations and displaying the skill and competitive drive that will make him a star in this league in the years to come."

Jarvis set new career highs across the board offensively last season. He set records in goals, assists, points, ice time, and rating, scoring 33 goals and added 34 assists for 67 points, averaging 18:45 of ice time per game with a +23 rating across 81 games. He added 5 goals and 4 assists with a +2 rating in 11 playoff games.

Prior to signing Jarvis, the Hurricanes had approximately $6.4 million in remaining cap space, so the signing does put them over the cap limit. However, with forward Jesper Fast now out for the season, the Hurricanes can become cap compliant by placing him on LTIR.

Jarvis has 3 years in the league under his belt since being a first round pick of the Hurricanes in the 2020 draft. He has 64 goals and 82 assists to his name for 146 points, notching a +44 rating while averaging 16:25 of ice time per game across 231 regular season games. He has another 13 goals and 14 assists in 40 playoff games.
