The New York Rangers and D Ryan Lindgren have agreed to a one year, $4.5 million contract, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet. The Rangers have confirmed the deal.

Lindgren was acquired by the Rangers at the 2017-2018 trade deadline as a prospect from the Boston Bruins as part of the big trade that sent Rick Nash to Boston. He was chosen in the second round of the 2016 draft by the Bruins out of the University of Minnesota and he'll turn 27 during this season, the last one before he can hit free agency.

When the offseason began, Lindgren became a restricted free agent with arbitration rights and had filed for a hearing earlier in July. The hearing has now been avoided with a one year deal that will take Lindgren right into the open market as a UFA next offseason.

Last season, Lindgren fell one point shy of his career high on the Rangers blueline. He scored 3 goals and added 14 assists for 17 points, averaging 19:21 of ice time per game while posting a +22 rating in 76 regular season games. He added no goals and 3 assists in 16 playoff games.

Asked about signing his deal, Lindgren said "Real happy to get it done before arbitration. I love being in New York, so I’m really excited to get back there. It’s a great city, it’s a great team, so I’m really excited for next year."

Since debuting in the league, Lindgren has 5 full seasons and part of a 6th under his belt in the NHL. He has 10 goals and 70 assists to his name, notching a +99 rating while averaging 18:57 of ice time per game in 333 regular season games. He has an additional 3 goals and 8 assists while averaging 20:47 of ice time per game in 43 playoff games.

Lindgren was the last remaining RFA the Rangers had to sign this offseason. With 3 RFA's re-signed, the Rangers now have under $1 million in cap space remaining entering the season, barring any other moves.
