The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired C Cody Glass, a 2025 3rd round draft pick, and a 2026 6th round draft pick from the Nashville Predators in exchange for forward Jordan Frasca, according to both teams.
Entering last season on the heels of a career season, Glass was unable to come close to the success he had in 2022-2023 and is now off to the 3rd team of his career. The Penguins will take on his $2.5 million salary for the upcoming season, the last year of his current contract. He'll be an RFA at the end of the season.
The Penguins are adding Glass in the hopes they can turn his career around, as the 25 year old has dealt with a slew of injuries throughout his career since being drafted. They also increased their draft capital with the trade as they continue to go through a retool.
Glass finished his 3rd season with the Predators in 2023-2024 since coming over from the Vegas Golden Knights. He potted 6 goals and added 7 assists for 13 points, posting a -9 rating while averaging 13:26 of ice time per game in 41 games. He did not appear in the playoffs.
Chosen with the 6th overall pick in the 2017 draft by the Golden Knights, Glass was dealt to the Predators as part of a 3 team trade with the Philadelphia Flyers that saw the Flyers get defenseman Ryan Ellis from the Predators and Vegas got Nolan Patrick from the Flyers. That deal didn't work out for anyone, as Glass underachieved in Nashville, Patrick has retired due to complications from multiple head injuries, and Ellis played just 4 games with the Flyers before suffering a career ending injury.
Frasca is the player the Predators got in return. He spent most of the season with the ECHL Wheeling Nailers last season, scoring 11 goals and adding 22 assists in 40 games. In 3 games with AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, he had no points.
The trade gives the Predators some wiggle room with salary cap space, as they still have RFA's Juuso Parssinen and Philip Tomasino to sign. The Penguins have no players left to sign.
