Here comes the madness. The St. Louis Blues tendered offer sheets to forward Dylan Holloway and defenseman Philip Broberg of the Edmonton Oilers, the team announced Tuesday.
Both Holloway and Broberg are restricted free agents without arbitration rights, making them eligible to receive an offer sheet. The Blues offered Holloway a two year deal worth $4.58 million, paying him $2.29 million annually. Broberg received a two year, $.916 million contract that pays him $4.58 million annually.
The offer sheets have been signed by Holloway and Broberg, officially putting the wheels in motion for them to join the Blues. The Oilers have until August 20 to match the offer sheets, which would keep them on the Oilers at the contract the Blues offered. If the offer sheets aren't matched, the players would join the Blues.
If the Oilers don't match Holloway's offer sheet and he goes to the Blues, they would receive a 3rd round pick from the Blues as compensation. If they don't match the offer sheet for Broberg, they would receive a second round pick from the Blues.
Broberg finished his 3rd NHL season after being drafted by the Oilers in the first round of the 2019 draft. He ended last season with no goals and two assists over 12 games, averaging 11:37 of ice time per game with a -3 rating. He added two goals and an assist in 10 playoff games.
Holloway, a first round pick of the Oilers in 2020, finished his second season in the NHL last year. He potted a career high 6 goals and added 3 assists for 9 points, tying his point total from 2022-2023. He also averaged 11:22 of ice time per game with a -1 rating in 38 games. He added 5 goals and two assists in 25 playoff games.
The last time a player changed teams with an offer sheet was when the Carolina Hurricanes got Jesperi Kotkaniemi from the Montreal Canadiens for $6.1 million over one year. Montreal got a first and 3rd round draft pick as compensation.
