He's going back to where it all began. Forward Teuvo Teravainen has agreed to a 3 year, $16.2 million contract with the Chicago Blackhawks, according to Chris Johnston of TSN. Chicago has confirmed the signing.

Teravainen started his career with the Blackhawks as a first round draft pick of the team in 2012 and was with the team when they won the Stanley Cup in 2015-2016. He was then traded to the Carolina Hurricanes and continued to be a reliable scoring threat. Almost a decade later, he's back in the windy city.

The contract for Teravainen pays him $5.4 million annually until he becomes a free agent at the end of the 2026-2027 season. His contract also contains a modified no trade clause in the form of an 8 team no trade list.

Last season, Teravainen set a new career high in goals in his contract year. In his 8th season with the Hurricanes, he potted 25 goals and added 28 assists for 53 points, posting a +15 rating while averaging 16:24 of ice time per game while playing in 76 games. He had an additional two goals and 4 assists in 11 playoff games.

Chicago GM Kyle Davidson said of the signing in a statement that "We're thrilled to have Teuvo back in Chicago. He was a big part of our 2015 Stanley Cup team and we're excited to have his leadership and experience back in our room."

Teravainen has 11 seasons in the league under his belt, split between the Blackhawks and Hurricanes. He has 155 goals and 304 assists to his name, averaging 16:48 of ice time while recording a +107 rating in 670 regular season games. He also has 23 goals and 27 assists to go with a +25 rating across 90 playoff games.

Chicago had a busy first day of free agency, bringing in Teravainen alongside Laurent Brossoit, Pat Maroon, Craig Smith, and Joey Anderson as they look to build past a poor season.
