This contract has been well earned. The Calgary Flames and forward Yegor Sharangovich have agreed to a 5 year, $28.75 million contract extension, according to TSN's Chris Johnston. The Flames officially confirmed the deal.

Sharangovich gets extended on the heels of a fantastic year with the Flames, setting career highs in goals, assists, points, games played, and average ice time per game. Sharangovich was set to hit free agency at the end of 2024-2025 and was traded to Calgary along with a 3rd round draft pick in exchange for Tyler Toffoli.

Despite the Flames missing the playoffs, Sharangovich broke out last year. He potted 31 goals and added 28 assists for 59 points, posting a -29 rating while averaging 17:19 of ice time per game while playing in all 82 games of the season.

For the coming season, Sharangovich will play out the last year of his current contract, making $3.1 million in his age 26 season. His new contract kicks in when the 2025-2026 season begins and will pay him $5.75 million annually through the end of the 2030-2031 season.

Sharangovich has played for the Flames and Devils in 4 NHL seasons, making his debut in the Covid shortened 2021 season. He has 84 goals and 81 assists to his name for 165 points, averaging 16:15 of ice time per game while notching a -50 rating in 287 regular season games. He has only played in 3 playoff games in his career, going without a point.

The Flames have had a busy offseason so far, trading away forward Andrew Mangiapane and goalie Jacob Markstrom while re-signing Sharangovich and bringing in Anthony Mantha, Jake Bean, and Ryan Lomberg in free agency.

The retool will hopefully lead to better things for the Flames this season. They finished well out of a playoff spot last season, going 38-39-5 for 81 points, finishing in 5th place in the Pacific Division and 17 points out of a playoff spot.
