They needed a center, so they got one. The Boston Bruins and C Elias Lindholm have agreed to a 7 year, $54.25 million contract, according to TSN's Darren Dreger. The Bruins have confirmed the news.

The Bruins needed a top 6 center, and they got one in the person of Lindholm, who is an upgrade down the middle despite a streaky and inconsistent season last year. He was at the top of a weak center class in free agency, and now he's off to Boston.

Lindholm said of signing in Boston that "I think being a Bruin is a dream, a lot of history, a lot of great players. I think they're right there. They gave Florida a pretty good matchup there and the whole thing was just exciting to join. To be a Bruin felt like the right fit for me and my family. Coming to TD Garden has always been a tough place to play. It was a lot of boxes that were checked, so it was an easy decision."

Last season, Lindholm played for the Calgary Flames before being dealt ahead of the trade deadline to Vancouver. Between both teams, he had 15 goals and 29 assists for 44 points, posting a -14 rating in 75 games. He added 5 goals and 5 assists in 13 playoff games.

Boston gave Lindholm a hefty contract to get the deal done. The AAV of the deal is $7.75 million and Lindholm gets signing bonus money for all 7 years, with $18.5 million of the deal set to be paid in signing bonuses. He has a full no movement clause for all 7 years and a modified no trade clause in addition to the no move for the last two years.

Across 11 seasons in the league, Lindholm has played for the Canucks, Flames, and Carolina Hurricanes. He has 218 goals and 339 assists to his name for 557 points, averaging 18:30 of ice time per game while posting a +15 rating over the course of 818 regular season games.

Lindholm has also played well in the playoffs when he's gotten the chance. Over 4 years of playoff hockey, he has 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points, posting a -7 rating while averaging 20:07 of ice time per game in 40 playoff games.
