Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill has been named the 2024 Jim Gregory GM of the year, according to an announcement by the league on Monday.

Nill has won the award for the second year in a row after also winning it last season. The award, first presented in 2010, has two back to back winners, with Lou Lamoriello of the New York Islanders winning the award in 2020 and 2021.

Asked about winning the award, Nill said "It means so much to our organization. This isn’t really a one-person award. It just shows I’ve got great people I’m working with and under, and to have success it’s not a one-man job. And this is really a reflection of our organization. I’m just so thankful to everybody within the Dallas Stars organization."

Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin and Florida Panthers GM Bill Zito were the finalists along with Nill. NHL GM's, a panel of league executives, and members of the media vote on the award after round two of the playoffs concludes.

Nill is in his 11th season with the Stars after being hired by the team in April 2013. The Stars, who signed Matt Duchene, Craig Smith, and Sam Steel in the offseason in addition to trading for defenseman Chris Tanev at the trade deadline, finished as the best team in the western conference, going 52-21-9 in the regular season and getting 113 points.

The Stars are built heavily on homegrown talent, a key part of Nill's tenure. He has overseen the drafting of team stars Jason Robertson, Jake Oettinger, Miro Heiskanen, Thomas Harley, Roope Hintz, Logan Stankoven, and Wyatt Johnston.

Despite finishing at the top of the west, however, the Stars couldn't make it all the way in the playoffs. They lost in the western conference final for the second straight year, falling to the Edmonton Oilers in 6 games after also losing in 6 to the Vegas Golden Knights last season.
