Dallas leads series 2-1
This'll be one fun series. Roope Hintz had two assists, Jason Robertson had a hat trick, and the Dallas Stars defeated the Edmonton Oilers with a 5-3 victory Monday night in Edmonton.
After the Stars rallied to win game two at home, they outscored the Oilers 5-1 over the final two periods to take control of game 3, taking the series lead in the process. Hintz, Tyler Seguin, and Jamie Benn each had two assists to compliment Robertson's hat trick.
Zach Hyman opened the scoring, giving the Oilers a 1-0 lead just 2:02 into the game on his 13th goal of the playoffs. Connor McDavid scored unassisted 7:37 into the game to double the Oilers lead to 2-0. Robertson got the Stars on the board 5:35 into the second period, cutting it to 2-1 with Hintz and Seguin assisting.
At the 8:05 mark of the period, Robertson scored his second goal of the night, tying the game 2-2 with Hintz getting the lone assist. Wyatt Johnston put the Stars ahead 1:03 later with his 8th goal of the playoffs. With 53 seconds left in the period, Adam Henrique scored for the Oilers, tying the game 3-3 on his second goal of the playoffs.
Later on in the 3rd period, Robertson completed the hat trick for the Stars, scoring his 3rd of the night and 6th of the playoffs with Seguin and Esa Lindell getting assists as it became 4-3 Stars. The lead stayed that way until the final minutes, when Miro Heiskanen scored on an empty net to make it 5-3 with Benn getting the assist.
Robertson said after the game that "Definitely, you want to score goals. It’s been a while, and you still contribute but obviously when you want to help the team you want to score goals and scoring one gives you confidence and gets you ready to go. Kind of just like a domino effect."
Starting in goal and winning his second straight game of the series for the Stars was Jake Oettinger, who kept the Oilers at bay. Oettinger turned aside 27 out of the 30 shots the Oilers tested him with, good for an even .900 save percentage.
Getting the start between the pipes for the Oilers on the other end of the ice was Stuart Skinner, who likewise lost his second straight of the series. Skinner stopped 17 of the 21 shots on goal the Stars sent his way, posting a .810 save percentage.
Skinner said of the loss that "It was a little bit frustrating. You knew that they were going to push back, these guys obviously want to make it to the finals. And obviously we do as well, but I think we just let off the gas a little bit. The main thing is I just can’t be letting in four goals, especially against the Dallas Stars, how good they are defensively."
Game 4 of the series is set for Wednesday night in Edmonton. The Stars will look to open up a commanding 3-1 series lead on the Oilers, while the Oilers will try to tie the series again and force at least a game 6.
