Things continue to look good in the big apple. Jimmy Vesey scored two goals, Barclay Goodrow had two assists, and the New York Rangers defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning with a 3-1 victory on Wednesday night in Manhattan.

The Rangers extended their winning streak to 3 games in a row with the win and won for the second time in 3 days out of the All Star Break. They also snapped Tampa Bay's 3 game winning streak behind multi point games from Vesey and Goodrow.

New York head coach Peter Laviolette said after the game that "I thought we did a really good job stick on puck in the defensive zone. They were trying to get off a shot, we got a stick in there. They were trying to make a play, we got a stick in there. Just trying to disrupt things a little bit. I thought for the most part we kept the puck in front of us."

After a scoreless first period, the Rangers took advantage in the second. Vesey scored 1:15 into the period to make it 1-0 Rangers with Goodrow and Tyler Pitlick assisting. At the 17:46 mark of the second, Jonny Brodzinski scored his 3rd goal of the season to double the lead to 2-0, assisted by Chris Kreider and Blake Wheeler.

In the 3rd period, the Lightning got on the board to end the shutout bid. Brandon Hagel scored 5:29 into the period to make it a 2-1 game on his 17th goal of the season. Late in the game, Vesey scored his second goal of the game to make it 3-1 on an empty net goal with Goodrow and Vincent Trocheck assisting.

Getting the start in net for the Rangers was Jonathan Quick, who got his 3rd straight win to improve to 12-4-2 in 18 starts. Quick stopped all but one of the 19 shots the Lightning tested him with, good for a sparkling .947 save percentage.

Rangers defenseman and captain Jacob Trouba said of Quick that "I think we're playing better as a team in front of him, but I would say he's been really good. When we need him to make a big save he's made them. Everyone in here rallies around what he's doing for us right now."

Starting between the pipes for the Lightning was Andrei Vasilevskiy, who got tagged with the loss to drop to 16-11-0 in 27 starts. Vasilevskiy turned aside 21 out of the 23 shots on goal that the Rangers had, recording a .913 save percentage in the loss.

Tampa Bay head coach Jon Cooper said of the loss that "They had a little bit more in the tank than we did at the end. They just made a couple more plays that we couldn't make. I thought we got a little bit tired as that game went on."

Up next, the Lightning wrap up the second end of a back to back by taking on the New York Islanders on Thursday night, with Jonas Johansson set to start in goal. The Rangers take on the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday night, with Igor Shesterkin projected to start.
