The downfall is temporarily over in SoCal. Phillip Danault had a goal and two assists, Trevor Moore had two goals, and the Los Angeles Kings defeated the Carolina Hurricanes with a 5-2 victory on Monday afternoon in Raleigh.

On game 5 of a 6 game road trip, the Kings snapped a losing streak of 8 games, having gone 0-4-4. The Kings had several players with multi point games, as Danault, Moore, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Matt Roy, Mikey Anderson, and Vladislav Gavrikov.

Kings head coach Todd McClellan said of snapping the losing streak that "I think relief is a word you would hear from a lot of guys. But I would rather choose reward because we did do a lot of things the right way, and we have on this trip. That’s a good sign for us. A lot of energy and emotion went into that game for us."

Moore scored the only goal of the first period, giving the Kings a 1-0 lead on his 19th goal of the season, assisted by Gavrikov and Danault. Jordan Martinook scored the only goal of the second period to double the Hurricanes lead to 2-0. Danault gave the Kings a 2-1 lead when he scored just 1:01 into the 3rd period with Roy and Gavrikov getting assists.

Alex Laferriere scored 1:20 after Danault did to push the lead to 3-1 with Anderson and Dubois assisting. 2:59 after Laferriere scored, Dubois scored his 9th goal of the season to make it a 4-1 lead. Jack Drury scored his 8th goal of the season for the Hurricanes to make it 4-2 before Moore sealed the win with an empty net goal.

Starting in net for the Kings on the front end of a back to back was David Rittich, who improved to 3-0-1 with a win. Rittich stopped 30 of the 32 shots the Hurricanes sent at him, giving him a .938 save percentage on the game.

Getting the start for the Hurricanes on the other end of the ice was Antti Raanta. He got the loss to drop to 9-6-2 after allowing 4 goals on 20 Kings shots. At 5:20 of the 3rd, he was pulled in favor of ECHL callup Yaniv Perets, who made his NHL debut and stopped the only shot he faced.

Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour said of the loss that "We had a few bad shifts. Then it was boom, boom, boom, in the net and the game was over. That’s what happens when you play a good team. There wasn’t going to be much. We needed to capitalize on the ones we had. We didn't. It wasn't a terrible game. It was just we had those couple lapses. That’s what it does in this league."

The Kings finish their back to back and road trip against the Dallas Stars on Tuesday, with Cam Talbot set to start. The Hurricanes are back in action on Friday when they take on the Detroit Red Wings, with Raanta expected to start.
