Quack quack go the Ducks. Troy Terry had a goal and an assist, Adam Henrique had an identical line, and the Anaheim Ducks defeated the Detroit Red Wings with a 4-3 victory on Monday night in Detroit.
After 5 straight losses, the Ducks swept their back to back, winning consecutive games as they look to right the ship. 10 skaters in total registered a point for the Ducks, while Terry and Henrique had two. Henrique scored his 4th goal in two games after a hat trick on Sunday.
Terry said of what led to this win that "I think being able to win last night, for a lot of us, let us loosen up on the stick a little tonight. I think guys just had more confidence around the net."
Radko Gudas started the scoring in this one, giving the Ducks a 1-0 lead 2:23 into the game on his 5th goal of the season. At the 8:19 mark of the first, Pavel Mintyukov scored his second goal of the season to double the Ducks lead to 2-0. With 1:11 left in the period, Henrique scored a power play goal to make it a 3-0 lead for the Ducks.
Anaheim continued to increase their lead in the second. Terry kept it going, scoring his 8th goal of the season 1:46 into the period, making it 4-0 with assists from Alex Killorn and Urho Vaakanainen. Not long after, Jeff Petry scored his first goal with the Red Wings, cutting the deficit to 4-1 with Patrick Kane and Andrew Copp getting assists.
Detroit continued their comeback bid in the 3rd period. Alex DeBrincat scored on the power play 7:17 into the frame, cutting the deficit to 4-2 on his 14th goal of the season, assisted by Kane and Shayne Gostisbehere. At the 17:31 mark of the 3rd, Gostisbehere and Dylan Larkin assisted on another DeBrincat goal to make it a 4-3 score, which went final.
Terry said of the Ducks 4 goal lead that "We haven’t been in that position many times this year. The story of our season has been getting a goal or two behind and having to battle back. Today we got the lead early and I liked the way we managed the game."
Getting the start for the Ducks was Lukas Dostal, who helped them sweep the back to back as a win improved his record to 6-6-0. Dostal stopped 29 of the 32 shots the Red Wings sent his way, giving him a .906 save percentage.
Starting for the Red Wings opposite Dostal was Ville Husso. He made saves on 6 of the 8 shots he saw from the Ducks before leaving the game in the first period with a lower body injury. James Reimer came on and made 12 saves on 14 shots from the Ducks for a .857 save percentage. Reimer got the loss, with his record dropping to 2-4-2.
DeBrincat said of the loss that "It’s frustrating. I think, obviously, we weren’t really ready to play. You’re not going to win many games when you go down 4-0. We tried to battle back, but it’s too late. We got to be ready to play. Those are two points we give up that we shouldn’t."
The Red Wings travel to Winnipeg to face the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday night, with Husso expected to start if he's healthy enough. The Flames take on the Calgary Flames on Thursday night, with John Gibson the projected starter.
