When a team is hot, they're hot. Alexis Lafreniere had two assists, Jimmy Vesey scored the winning goal, and the New York Rangers defeated the Detroit Red Wings with a 3-2 victory on Wednesday night in Manhattan.

Coming off a 5-1 loss to an in-state rival in the Buffalo Sabres, the Rangers bounced back with a two goal rally in the 3rd period to knock off the Red Wings. The Rangers won their 8th game out of their last 10 and improved to 16-4-1, the best record in the NHL.

Rangers defenseman K'Andre Miller said of the bounce back that "The biggest thing with this group is realizing that we have a really good team and we have a good structure. When everything is going we're usually winning those games. So it's sticking to what we're doing when we're winning those games and trying to play a full 60."

After a scoreless first period, Artemi Panarin got the Rangers on the board in the second period, giving them a 1-0 lead on his 12th goal of the season. On the power play 8:43 into the period, Moritz Seider scored to tie the game for the Red Wings. At the 9:06 mark of the period, Robby Fabbri scored to make it 2-1 Red Wings after 40 minutes.

In the 3rd period, the Rangers took the lead for good. First, Miller scored to tie the game, making it 2-2 on his 3rd goal of the season, with assists going to Jacob Trouba and Mika Zibanejad. At the 15:45 mark of the 3rd, Vesey scored his 5th goal of the season, making it 3-2 Rangers. Lafreniere and Vincent Trocheck assisted on the goal.

Getting the start for the Rangers was Igor Shesterkin, getting his second win in 3 games as his record bumped up to 9-4-0. Shesterkin stopped 25 of the 27 shots he saw from the Red Wings offense, giving him a .926 save percentage.

Starting for the Red Wings in net opposite Shesterkin was Ville Husso, who took the loss as his record dropped to 7-4-1 in 12 starts. Husso had a busy night, turning aside 38 out of the 41 shots on goal the Rangers had, recording a .927 save percentage.

Fabbri said of the loss after the game "Unacceptable to not come away with at least one point. We were in it. We had the lead for a while. We were playing our game that we played for the last handful of games. We fell asleep there for a couple minutes and that's the result."

The Red Wings get back in action against the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday as they finish a back to back, with James Reimer set to start. The Rangers travel to face the Nashville Predators on Saturday, with Shesterkin the likely starter.
