Badly needed win, and against a division rival? Check and check. Jonathan Huberdeau had a goal and an assist, Rasmus Andersson scored the game winner, and the Calgary Flames defeated the Seattle Kraken 4-3 in overtime on Monday night in Seattle.

The Flames won for the 5th time in their last 10 games, sitting at 7-8-3 and in 6th place in the Pacific Division. The Flames have 3 wins in 4 games, with the one loss coming by way of a shootout. Huberdeau and Andersson were the multi point players, with Andersson having a goal and two assists.

Just 1:16 into the game, Elias Lindholm scored for the Flames, giving them a 1-0 lead on his 4th goal of the season. At the 8:42 mark of the first, Vince Dunn scored for the Kraken, tying the game 1-1 with an assist by Alex Wennberg. Huberdeau then scored a power play goal for the Flames, giving them a 2-1 lead after one period.

In the second period, Jordan Eberle tied the game back up for the Kraken, tying the game 2-2 on his 3rd goal of the season, assisted by Dunn and Yanni Gourde. At the 10:25 mark of the period, it was Jared McCann who scored, giving the Kraken a 3-2 lead with Adam Larsson assisting, scoring his 8th goal of the season.

The only goal of the 3rd period came from Andrew Mangiapane. He scored his 5th goal of the season to tie the game 3-3, assisted by Noah Hanifin and Chris Tanev. That ended up forcing overtime. That was when Andersson scored 3:28 into overtime, giving the Flames the win with assists from Huberdeau and Mikael Backlund.

Andersson said of his goal that "I felt like I had Daccord on the wraparound. I felt like he was very far out, and I went for the wraparound, and he kind of just bounced back. And then I saw him scrambling, I just threw it at the net, and it went in."

Getting the start for the Flames was Dan Vladar, who held on to pick up the win, improving to 3-1-1 through 5 starts. Vladar stopped 28 of the 31 shots the Kraken sent at him, which was good for a .903 save percentage.

Starting for the Kraken opposite Vladar was Joey Daccord, who saw his record drop to 2-2-5 with another overtime loss. Daccord turned aside 22 out of the 24 shots on goal that the Flames had, recording a .917 save percentage.

Kraken head coach Dave Hakstol said that "It’s a disappointing night tonight, so we’re not going to sit here and pat ourselves on the back. It’s nice to see some chemistry continuing to grow, and that offensive piece is very important. At the end of the day, it’s about getting that second extra point here tonight, and we didn’t do enough to get that."

Both teams get back in action on Wednesday. Jacob Markstrom is expected to start Calgary's road game against the Nashville Predators. The Kraken host the San Jose Sharks, with Philipp Grubauer the projected starter.
