The storm surge has passed through San Jose. Seth Jarvis scored two goals, Martin Necas had a goal and an assist, and the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the San Jose Sharks with a 6-3 victory on Tuesday night in San Jose.

The win boosts another strong start to a season for the Hurricanes, who sit at 3-1-0 and atop the Metropolitan Division after 4 games. Jarvis, Necas, Stefan Noesen, Brady Skjei, Michael Bunting, and Jesperi Kotkaniemi each had two point games for the Hurricanes.

Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin said of the win that "We were playing solid all game. We had chance after chance. We knew we just had to stick with it. Our power play came up huge there in the third period. That's always good to get them clicking and firing on all cylinders."

Fabian Zetterlund started the scoring for the Sharks in the first period, scoring 3:14 into the game to give them a 1-0 lead, assisted by Tomas Hertl on his first goal of the season. With the Hurricanes on the power play at the 4:06 mark of the first, Jarvis scored to tie the game for the Hurricanes, assisted by Bunting and Teuvo Teravainen.

At the 8:54 mark of the second, Slavin scored a shorthanded goal for the Hurricanes to give them a 2-1 lead. Zetterlund then assisted on a power play goal by Filip Zadina to tie the game 2-2, Zadina's second of the season. William Eklund scored a power play goal to make it 3-2 Sharks after two periods, his first goal of the season.

Stefan Noesen scored a power play goal 9:07 into the 3rd period to tie the score 3-3. With the Hurricanes on another power play, Jarvis scored his second goal of the night, putting the Hurricanes ahead 4-3. Martin Necas scored to put the Hurricanes ahead 5-3, followed by a goal from Brett Pesce to make it a 6-3 game.

Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour said of the 4 goal 3rd period that "The answer was that we were able to get one by that goalie because he was phenomenal. I mean, that was a really amazing goalie performance through the first two periods there. He was special. We were able to crack one in there with Noesen's goal and I think that kind of opened the floodgates a little bit, but he was keeping them in there."

Frederik Andersen got the start for the Hurricanes, making one save on two shots before leaving the game with an upper body injury. Antti Raanta came in and made 12 saves on 14 shots to get the win, improving to 1-1-0 this season.

Getting the start in net for the Sharks was MacKenzie Blackwood, who got hit hard and tagged with the loss to drop to 0-1-1. Blackwood stopped 36 of the 42 shots the Hurricanes had, giving him a .857 save percentage.

Sharks head coach David Quinn said that "I didn't like the way we played for most of the night. I don't think we skated the way we have been. I don't think we were physical enough and it ended up catching up to us. We've got to be way more competitive in our battles than we were today. We were way too puck conscious about the game, soft on battles. So, that was disappointing because that hasn't been the case up to this point."

Both teams get back in action on Thursday night. The Sharks host the Boston Bruins, with Kaapo Kahkonen expected to start. Andersen is projected to start for the Hurricanes against the Seattle Kraken.
