The young star getting taken care of is big in the NHL now. C/RW Troy Terry and the Anaheim Ducks have agreed to a 7 year, $49 million contract, according to an announcement by the Ducks on Wednesday.

Last season was another strong one for Terry in a Ducks uniform. He had 23 goals and a career high 38 assists for 61 points, averaging 19:22 of ice time while posting a -8 rating in 70 regular season games for the Ducks.

Terry's contract comes entirely in base salary, with all $49 million coming in straight salary with no incentives or trade protections. He's set to make $7 million per year annually and has a modified no trade clause for the final 6 seasons of the contract. That kicks in when the 2025-2026 season and is a 10 team no trade list.

Anaheim GM Pat Verbeek said in a statement that "We are very pleased to be able to come to an agreement. Troy is a major part of our team as a character player and leader, and we look forward to seeing him continue his ascent to being one of the League's top players."

Prior to the agreement, Terry was an RFA and had an arbitration hearing between him and the Ducks scheduled. Now, that gets avoided with Terry being locked up for the long haul. He has been a participant in the NHL All Star Game for each of the last two seasons in a Ducks uniform.

Chosen by the Ducks in the 5th round of the 2015 NHL Draft, Terry has played all 6 of his NHL seasons with the Ducks. He has 75 goals and 101 assists for 176 points, posting a -17 rating while averaging 16:43 of ice time in 274 regular season games. Terry has yet to play in the postseason during his career.

Terry trailed only Trevor Zegras for the Ducks lead in assists, while tying Zegas for the lead in goals with 23. He set personal highs in goals and points in 2021-2022, when he scored 37 goals and finished with 67 points.

With Terry signed, he becomes the highest paid player on the Ducks, but with Zegras still unsigned, he might not be for much longer. The Ducks have approximately $20.2 million in cap space after signing Terry.
