New contracts are still coming through the pipeline. LW Alexis Lafreniere and the New York Rangers have agreed to a two year, $4.65 million contract, according to an announcement by the team on Thursday.

The former first overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, Lafreniere was an RFA after the expiration of his entry level contract. He gets a $2.325 million AAV over both years, with $350,000 of his first year salary being a signing bonus. When the contract expires following the end of the 2024-2025 season, Lafreniere will still be an RFA.

Last season was Lafreniere's 3rd season in the NHL. He scored 16 goals and had a career high in assists with 23, racking up 39 points. He averaged 15:13 of ice time while posting a +10 rating in 81 regular season games. Lafreniere went without a point in 7 playoff games.

Filip Chytil and Kaapo Kakko were Lafreniere's primary linemates last season. With that line, the Rangers outscored opponents 31-20 and had 53.6 percent of the shot attempts to go with 52.6 percent of the expected goals at 5 on 5 play.

Lafreniere has been a Ranger for all 3 seasons in the NHL after being drafted. He has accumulated 47 goals and 44 assists for 91 points, posting a +5 rating while averaging 14:25 of ice time in 216 regular season games. Across two seasons in the playoffs, Lafreniere has two goals and 7 assists in 27 playoff games.

The Rangers finished last season with a 47-22-13 record, sitting in 3rd in the Metropolitan Division. They were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the New Jersey Devils and fired head coach Gerard Gallant, replacing him with Peter Laviolette.
