More defensemen are on the move this offseason. The New Jersey Devils have acquired D Colin Miller from the Dallas Stars in exchange for a 5th round pick in the 2025 Draft, according to David Pagnotta of NHL Network. Both teams have confirmed the trade.

The trade comes in the middle of a two year contract for Miller. He is on the second year of a two year, $3.7 million contract he signed before the 2022-2023 season, with the Devils taking on the entire contract. He has a $1.85 million cap hit for the upcoming season.

Last season was Miller's only year with the Stars, who were his 4th NHL team in his career. He scored 6 goals and added 15 assists for 21 points, playing in 79 regular season games with a +23 rating while averaging 16:46 of ice time. Miller had no goals and one assist to go with a -2 rating in 10 playoff games.

A native of Ontario, Miller won a gold medal at the IIHF World Championship with Team Canada in 2021. In the AHL in 2014-2015, Miller helped the Manchester Monarchs win the Calder Cup, with his 19 goals tying him for first among AHL defensemen that year.

Debuting in the NHL with the Boston Bruins, Miller was left unprotected ahead of the Vegas Golden Knights expansion draft, with Miller ultimately getting picked in the expansion draft by Vegas. He played all 82 regular season games in the inaugural season for the Golden Knights.

Miller has played for the Bruins, Golden Knights, Buffalo Sabres, and Stars over 8 NHL seasons, debuting in 2015-2016. Miller has 35 goals and 122 assists to his name, averaging 17:46 of ice time with a -12 rating in 466 regular season games. He also has 4 goals and 8 assists over the span of 40 playoff games.

The Devils have had a busy offseason, re-signing Nathan Bastian, Jesper Bratt, Erik Haula, and Timo Meier while bringing in Tyler Toffoli, Chris Tierney, and Miller.
