The goalie quandary in Ottawa might be getting solved. The Ottawa Senators have signed G Joonas Korpisalo to a 5 year, $20 million contract, according to an announcement by the Senators on Saturday.

Korpisalo's contract runs through the end of the 2027-2028 season and has a $4 million AAV. He has no performance or signing bonuses in the contract, but it does contain a modified no trade clause in the form of a 10 team no trade list for all 5 seasons.

Goaltending was a weakness for the Senators last season, with the team using 7 goalies. Thanks to a combination of injuries and poor performance, the Senators used Cam Talbot, Anton Forsberg, Magnus Hellberg, Mads Sogaard, Kevin Mandolese, Dylan Ferguson, and Leevi Merilainen at various points of the season.

Last season was a solid year for Korpisalo, playing for the Columbus Blue Jackets and Los Angeles Kings. He ended the season with a 18-14-4 record with 24 quality starts and one shutout, recording a .914 save percentage and 2.87 GAA in 37 starts and 39 games.

Korpisalo set career highs in both starts and games played last season, falling one win shy of tying his career high of 19. His .914 save percentage was the second best in his career, while his 24 quality starts also set a career high. He saved 16.72 goals above expected, ranking in the top 15 among goalies.

Over 8 seasons in the NHL, Korpisalo has played for only the Blue Jackets and Kings. He has a 94-81-25 record in that time, recording 100 quality starts and 4 shutouts. He has authored a 3.01 GAA and .904 save percentage in 201 starts and 221 games played. Korpisalo has a 5-9 record with a 2.59 GAA and .922 save percentage in 15 career playoff games, all starts.

The signing of Korpisalo pairs him with Forsberg in the crease with the Senators, helping to solidify what was a question filled goaltending picture otherwise.
