There's a little splash in Ottawa here. The Ottawa Senators and RW Vladimir Tarasenko have agreed to a one year, $5 million contract, according to David Pagnotta of NHL Network. The Senators have confirmed the contract.

A former first round draft pick, Tarasenko turned down offers from 3 other teams by signing with the Senators. All $5 million owed to Tarasenko comes as base salary. He also gets a full no trade clause for the one season in Ottawa.

Tarasenko has played for the St. Louis Blues and New York Rangers in 11 NHL seasons since being drafted in 2010. He has 270 goals and 304 assists for 574 points, averaging 17:27 of ice time with a +61 rating in 675 regular season games. Tarasenko also has 44 goals and 20 assists to go with a -23 rating in 97 playoff games.

After trading Alex DeBrincat to the Detroit Red Wings, Tarasenko effectively replaces DeBrincat in the lineup, though not having the same goal scoring prowess. Tarasenko won the Stanley Cup in 2018-2019 with the Blues, his 7th season in the league.

Ottawa GM Pierre Dorion said in a statement that "Vladimir's a natural goal scorer. He's a dynamic player who can score from anywhere in the offensive zone, as well as an underrated playmaker who's made a career out of driving offense for he and his linemates. An established performer in the regular season and in the playoffs, we're thrilled to add a player of his caliber to our lineup."

Last season for Tarasenko was spent between the Blues and the Rangers following a trade deadline move. He combined for 18 goals and 32 assists between both teams, averaging 16:48 of ice time in 69 games. Tarasenko had 3 goals and one assist in 7 playoff games for the Rangers.

The addition of Tarasenko is the latest as the Senators retool their roster. They've added Joonas Korpisalo, Dominik Kubalik, and Zack MacEwen to the roster, with DeBrincat and Cam Talbot among their departures.
