The Connecticut native is coming back east. The New York Rangers and G Jonathan Quick have agreed to a one year, $825,000 contract, according to Kevin Weekes of ESPN. The Rangers have confirmed.
Quick gets a modified no trade clause in his contract, giving the 37 year old a 10 team no trade list for the upcoming season. He has a $50,000 signing bonus in his contract and $100,000 available in performance bonuses, making the AAV $925,000, but the cap hit will stay at $825,000.
Prior to the trade deadline, Quick was traded from his only franchise, the Los Angeles Kings, to the Columbus Blue Jackets as they attempted to shake up the position. Quick was reportedly upset with the move and was traded by the Blue Jackets on the trade deadline day to the Vegas Golden Knights, where he served as the backup goalie to Adin Hill when he took over the crease on their way to a championship.
Between the Kings and Golden Knights last season, Quick had a 16-15-6 record with two shutouts and 14 quality starts. He authored a 3.41 GAA and .882 save percentage in 36 starts and five appearances in relief. He did not appear in any playoff games for the Golden Knights.
During his career, Quick has won Stanley Cup Titles with the Kings in 2011-2012 and 2013-2014 to go with the Golden Knights in 2022-2023. He won the Conn Smythe trophy after the 2011-2012 playoffs, and has won the William Jennings trophy twice.
Rangers GM Chris Drury said of Quick transitioning to the Rangers that "I think it'll be seamless. He's excited to be a Ranger. He's a Connecticut kid that wanted to come here, play here and be a Ranger. He knows all about 'Shesty' and his accomplished and I think he's ready to take on the role of mentor, similar to what he did in Vegas. Excited to have him."
Quick has spent 16 seasons in the NHL, playing for only the Kings and Golden Knights. Quick has a 375-277-84 record, with a 2.47 GAA and .911 save percentage in 738 starts and 753 games, with 58 shutouts to his name. In the playoffs, Quick has a 49-43 record with a .921 save percentage and 2.31 GAA in 92 games, all starts.
A native of Milford, Connecticut, Quick will get the chance to play for his favorite team growing up as he winds down his playing career. He will serve as the backup to Igor Shesterkin as the Rangers try to bounce back from an early exit in the playoffs.
