After testing the market, both sides decided to stay together. The Pittsburgh Penguins and G Tristan Jarry have agreed to a 5 year, $26.875 million contract, according to an announcement by the team on Saturday afternoon.
The contract to keep Jarry in Pittsburgh has a $1.5 million signing bonus for this season, a $1 million signing bonus in each of the next two years, a $3 million signing bonus in year 4, and a $2.5 million signing bonus in the final year. He has a 12 team no trade list in each year of the deal.
Last season was another solid season for Jarry as the starting goalie of the Penguins. He ended the season with a 24-13-7 record to go with two shutouts and 27 quality starts. He had a .909 save percentage and 2.90 GAA in 47 games, all starts.
Pittsburgh president of hockey operations Kyle Dubas said that "Think it's been made very clear to him what my expectations are in terms of him continuing to be in great shape, put himself in the position to be as healthy as possible. I was very comfortable that he would be able to hold up his end of the bargain and continue to get better for us. And at his age as well, looking at the marketplace, just felt it was the best bet to make for our club at this time."
Chosen by the Penguins in the second round of the 2013 NHL Draft, Jarry is a two time all star and had his first full NHL season in 2019-2020 after debuting in 2016-2017. He ranks 3rd in Penguins history in GAA, wins, and shutouts.
Jarry has played all 7 of his NHL seasons with the Penguins, including 4 full seasons. In that span, he has a 117-60-20 record with 120 quality starts and 13 shutouts. He has a 2.65 GAA and .914 save percentage in 198 starts and 206 games. Jarry also has a 2-6 record with a .891 save percentage and 3.00 GAA in 8 playoff games, all starts.
Behind Jarry, the Penguins brought in goalies Alex Nedeljkovic and Magnus Hellberg in addition to having Casey DeSmith under contract, leaving 3 goalies to compete for the backup spot to Jarry.
