Going from Canada to Arizona has to be a good change of climate. Forward Alex Kerfoot and the Arizona Coyotes have agreed to a two year, $7 million contract, according to Craig Morgan of PHNX sports. The Coyotes have confirmed the deal.

Kerfoot's contract carries an AAV of $3.5 million for both seasons, with all $7 million due to him being in base salary. He has a modified no trade clause for both seasons as well, in the form of a 10 team no trade list.

Across 6 seasons in the NHL, Kerfoot has played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Colorado Avalanche. In that time, he has amassed 74 goals and 145 assists, averaging 14:34 of ice time with a +11 rating in 442 regular season games. Kerfoot also has 6 goals and 12 assists in 48 career playoff games.

Originally chosen in the 5th round of the 2012 NHL Draft by the New Jersey Devils, Kerfoot gives the Coyotes reliable middle six scoring depth for the next two seasons. In 2021-2022, he set a career high in points with 51, divided between 13 goals and 38 assists.

Coyotes GM Bill Armstrong said in a statement that "We are very pleased to sign Alex to a two-year contract. He is a smart, skilled forward with good speed who can play anywhere in our lineup. His experience and versatility will be very valuable to our team."

Last season with the Maple Leafs marked Kerfoot's 4th in Canada, with the winger a native of British Columbia. He potted 10 goals and added 22 assists for a 32 point season, posting a +8 rating while playing in all 82 regular season games, averaging 14:37 of ice time. He added two goals over 11 playoff games.

With the Coyotes, Kerfoot joins Troy Stecher and Jason Zucker as veteran additions to the team this offseason as they look to improve on their 2022-2023 campaign.
