One of the cup champions is getting a new deal. The Vegas Golden Knights and C/LW Brett Howden have agreed to a two year, $3.8 million contract, according to an announcement by the Golden Knights.

Last season was Howden's second season with the Golden Knights after being traded by the New York Rangers. Howden potted 6 goals with 7 assists for 13 points, posting a +5 rating while averaging 13:04 of ice time over 54 regular season games. Howden added 5 goals with 5 assists over 22 playoff games, posting a +4 rating.

With free agency underway, Howden was an RFA with arbitration rights and had a hearing set for arbitration. His new contract has a $1.9 million AAV over both years, with a $1.375 million signing bonus for year one, which drops his base salary down to $775,000 for the first year of the deal.

A former first round draft pick, Howden was traded from the Tampa Bay Lightning to the Rangers as part of the JT Miller and Ryan McDonagh trade. Before the 2021-2022 season, he was dealt from the Rangers to the Golden Knights in exchange for a player and a 4th round pick.

Howden has played 5 seasons in the NHL, split between the Rangers and Golden Knights since debuting in 2018-2019. He has 31 goals and 51 assists to his name, averaging 13:03 of ice time while posting a -15 rating in 279 regular season games. Howden has 5 goals and 5 assists over 25 playoff games.

The Golden Knights have signed Howden and Pavel Dorofeyev to new contracts, officially taking care of business regarding their pool of RFA's.
