The young kid is going around the block and then some. C/LW Ryan Donato and the Chicago Blackhawks have agreed to a two year, $4 million contract, according to Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff. The deal has been confirmed by the Blackhawks.

Donato's contract pays him $2 million annually and does not include any incentives or trade protections. A 27 year old Massachusetts native, the Blackhawks are now Donato's 5th NHL franchise and second Original 6 franchise.

Over his career, Donato has played 6 seasons for 4 different teams, most recently the Seattle Kraken. Donato has tallied 65 goals and 70 assists, notching a -15 rating while averaging 12:28 of ice time in 325 regular season games. Donato has no goals and two assists with a -4 rating while averaging 9:30 of ice time in 19 career playoff games.

Chicago GM Kyle Davidson said of the signing in a statement that "Ryan adds depth and versatility to our team and will complement our forward group well. He will be a great addition to our system."

As a free agent prior to the 2021-2022 season, Donato signed with the Kraken ahead of their inaugural season. On opening night that season against the Vegas Golden Knights, Donato scored the first goal in Kraken history, a game that they lost 4-3. He was on a one year deal worth $1.2 million with the Kraken last season.

Last season was Donato's second year with the Kraken after previously playing for 3 teams in 3 years. He scored 14 goals and added 13 assists, averaging 11:15 of ice time with a +16 rating in 71 games. He had no goals and two assists in 14 playoff games last season.

So far this offseason, the Blackhawks have brought in Corey Perry, Nick Foligno, and Taylor Hall while drafting Connor Bedard with the first overall pick.
