This budding star is staying where he is. The New Jersey Devils and RW/LW Jesper Bratt have agreed to a 8 year, $63 million contract, according to an announcement by the Devils on Thursday.
Bratt said of his new contract that "This is the deal I wanted and I'm really excited. I'm just so happy we could get it done. Obviously that was kind of my main focus, to be here for a long time to keep that going. We have so many positive things from what happened this year and when I looked at a team, looked at my teammates with long-term deals and all that stuff, I knew that we have something really good to build on for a lot of years."
The pending RFA now won't be any more. His contract carries an AAV of $7.875 million and has a full no movement clause from 2024-2025 until 2027-2028. From that point on, he has a no movement clause and a modified no trade clause in the form of a 15 team no trade list.
Playing on a one year contract last season, Bratt put up big numbers for the Devils. He scored a career high 32 goals and added 41 assists to tie his career high in points with 73, playing all 82 regular season games. He had one goal and 5 assists in 12 playoff games for the Devils.
Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald said in a statement that "It was always a priority to keep Jesper Bratt here long term and both parties are thrilled that a deal was completed. I value and commend the commitment Jesper made to this organization. We believe that he is a special player and a key member of our core group of talent who will contribute towards the team's long-term success and organizational goal of bringing the Stanley Cup back to New Jersey."
A former 6th round pick, Bratt has 6 seasons in the league under his belt, all with the Devils. In that time, he has 102 goals and 174 assists, averaging 16:01 of ice time per game to go with a -12 rating in 389 games. His one goal and 5 assists are his only playoff numbers in 13 career playoff games.
With Bratt under contract, the Devils have 7 pending RFA's and 4 pending UFA's prior to the beginning of free agency on July 1. They have 13 players under contract for next season and have approximately $26 million in cap space.
