Dallas leads series 3-2
This has the ingredients of a 7 game series to me. Roope Hintz had 3 assists, Tyler Seguin had a goal and an assist, and the Dallas Stars defeated the Minnesota Wild 4-0 on Tuesday night in Dallas.
The Stars won the pivotal game 5 on home ice, taking a 3-2 series lead and now just one win away from the second round. In addition to Hintz and Seguin's multi point games, Jason Robertson also had a goal and an assist in the win.
Stars head coach Pete Deboer said that "I think we're getting better as the series goes on. We got behind early, we've chased it. We wanted to take the opportunity to get out in front for the first time in the series. The last win is always the toughest, but we've got an elimination game in Minnesota. We've been a real good road team all year. I think our guys are excited."
It was Seguin who started the scoring for the Stars in this one. He scored his 4th goal of the playoffs 2:22 into the game, making it 1-0 Stars with assists from Robertson and Hintz. Robertson scored on the power play at the 11:04 mark of the first period, doubling the Stars lead to 2-0 with Hintz and Miro Heiskanen assisting.
Early in the second period, Mason Marchment got on the board for the Stars, scoring 1:19 into the period to make it a 3-0 game, assisted by Seguin and Hintz. The only goal of the 3rd period came from Ty Dellandrea, who increased the Stars lead to 4-0 with his first goal of the playoffs, assisted by Max Domi and Ryan Suter.
Getting the start in goal for the Stars was Jake Oettinger, who got his first shutout of the playoffs. Oettinger stopped all 27 shots he saw from the Wild, recording his second career shutout in the playoffs.
Robertson said of his play that "Oettinger's just dialed in right now. That's obviously important in the playoffs. We want to limit more of the chances we give to him, but we know we have one of the best goalies in the world behind us. Definitely an advantage."
The Wild once again gave Filip Gustavsson the start, giving him some run over Marc-Andre Fleury. Gustavsson got the loss on the road, making 21 saves out of the 24 shots on goal the Stars had, recording a .875 save percentage.
Wild head coach Dean Evason said of the loss that "Well, hopefully we can use these next couple of days to recharge and rejuvenate, get excited. We didn't have our best stuff obviously tonight for whatever reason. So yeah, two days, we expect our group to be excited, jacked to get home. Win one game and see what happens in seven."
Up next, game 6 of the series shifts back to Minnesota on Friday. The Stars will look to secure a spot in the second round, while the Wild aim to keep their season alive and force a game 7.
