Series tied 3-3
One of the more entertaining series is going all the way. Devon Toews had two assists, Mikko Rantanen had a goal and an assist, and the Colorado Avalanche beat the Seattle Kraken 4-1 on Friday night in Seattle.
With the Avalanche facing elimination, they won on the road, keeping their season going and forcing a do or die game 7 coming up. Toews and Rantanen paced the Avalanche on the scoresheet, while Cale Makar also chipped in with two assists. Arturri Lehkonen added two goals.
Rantanen said of the road win that "The intensity level we had right from the start, I think we played simple and we were skating. We were relentless. That was the first time we did it for three periods. We were just relentless on the puck and off the puck, support everywhere on the ice."
It was the Kraken who jumped out to the lead first. Vince Dunn scored his first goal of the playoffs, coming unassisted 15:48 into the game to make it 1-0 Seattle. Rantanen then answered back for the Avalanche, scoring with 20 seconds left in the period to tie the game, assisted by Toews and Evan Rodrigues.
Erik Johnson started the scoring in the second period, giving the Avalanche a 2-1 lead with his first goal of the playoffs, assisted by Rantanen. Makar and Toews then assisted on Lehkonen's first goal of the night, making the lead 3-1. Lehkonen scored the only goal of the 3rd period for his second of the night, making the final score 4-1 for the Avalanche.
Getting the start in net for the Avalanche was Alexandar Georgiev, who got the win to keep the series going. Georgiev stopped 22 of the 23 shots the Kraken sent towards him, which was good for a .957 save percentage in the win.
It was Philipp Grubauer starting for the Kraken in goal, getting the loss to extend the series. Grubauer turned aside 35 out of the 38 shots on goal the Avalanche had, recording a .921 save percentage on the night.
Kraken forward Jordan Eberle said after the game that "I thought we played a lot on our heels tonight. We didn't really play with pressure, and obviously a good team like that, they play with desperation, they are going to come at you in waves. We kept trying to find a spark and couldn't. We played a little too timid and you have a team on the brink, they are going to play with a lot of desperation."
Up next, the series goes back to Colorado for game 7 on Sunday. The goal is simple. Win and move to the second round, lose and be eliminated from contention.
