After regulation drama, they held on after all. Brandon Tanev had two goals and an assist, Adam Larsson scored the game winning goal, and the Seattle Kraken held on to beat the Dallas Stars with a 5-4 overtime victory on Tuesday night in Dallas.

The Kraken are now 6-3-1 in their last 10 games, further strengthening their hold on the top wild card spot in the Western Conference. However, two of those losses were to the Stars. After a late game rally, it looked like loss number 3 was in order, but they flipped the script this time around.

Kraken head coach Dave Hakstol said that "We played hard tonight, played hard all the way through the game. There's portions of the game where it was up and down, a little bit of a track meet, which isn't in our favor against that team. At the end of the day, we were able to settle things down well enough. When you give up those two at the end, it can be pretty disappointing, yet we went out and found a way to win it in overtime."

Starting the scoring for Seattle was Tanev, giving them a 1-0 lead 2:32 into the game on his 14th goal of the season. Miro Heiskanen followed that up with a power play goal to tie the game for the Stars. Tanev and Larsson then assisted on Daniel Sprong's go ahead goal. Jared McCann scored 1:37 into the second period, the only goal of the frame to give Seattle a 3-1 lead after two periods.

Wyatt Johnston scored his 21st goal of the season 3:57 into the 3rd period, cutting the Stars deficit to 3-2. Tanev scored again for the Kraken to make it a 4-2 game. Joe Pavelski found the back of the net to make it a one goal game once again, leading to Jamie Benn's game tying goal with less than a second left in regulation, forcing overtime. On a breakaway, Larsson scored in OT to give the Kraken the win.

Larsson said after the game that "It was a great team win. Even till the end I thought we believed. We got a goal called back. There's no panic either way, and then they came back obviously scored with 0.7 seconds left or whatever it was, that's a tough break. But we still believed till the end."

Getting the start in goal for the Kraken was Joey Daccord, called up from the AHL with Philipp Grubauer out with an illness. Daccord stopped 25 shots out of the 29 he saw, which was good for a .862 save percentage. Daccord's record is now 2-0-0 in as many starts.

Jake Oettinger got the start in net for the Stars and got the OT loss, dropping his record to 30-10-11 in 54 games. Oettinger turned aside 22 out of the 27 shots on goal the Kraken sent at him, recording a .815 save percentage.

Stars head coach Pete Deboer said that "Obviously didn't like our start, I thought we got better as the game went on. Kind of predicted it coming back off the road like we did that we might start slow. You throw in the fact that you're playing a team you just swept in their building, a motivated group that's fighting for their playoff life, so I'm not surprised it started the way that it did. It's an important point for us, I wish we would have got two, but important point."

Both teams get back in action on Thursday to continue their schedules. Grubauer is the projected starter for the Kraken against the Nashville Predators, while Oettinger is lined up to start for Dallas against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
