Something's brewing in Detroit. Dylan Larkin scored two goals, Jonatan Berggren had a two goal game of his own, and the Detroit Red Wings rolled past the Vancouver Canucks with a 5-2 victory on Saturday afternoon in Detroit.

In their 3rd game out of the break, the Red Wings picked up their second straight win, improving to 23-20-8 as the trade deadline draws closer. Larkin led the way with two goals and an assist for a 3 point game, while the rookie Berggren had his first multi goal game in the NHL.

Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde said of the win that "Some of the top teams in our league can have an off-night and win. That's not us. This just gives us an opportunity to build off something because this will be a really tough road trip against four good teams, including against two we just beat."

The Red Wings got some quick offense to open the game. Just 1:08 into the contest, Larkin made it 1-0 Detroit with his 17th goal of the season, assisted by Moritz Seider and Ben Chiarot. 1:27 later, it was Berggren's turn, quickly doubling the lead to 2-0 with Seider and Chiarot again assisting, his 9th goal of the season.

Early in the second period, it was Vancouver's turn to strike. New addition Anthony Beauvillier scored on the power play, making it 2-1 with assists from JT Miller and Quinn Hughes. On the power play 13:17 into the period, Larkin struck again, extending the Detroit lead to 3-1 with David Perron and Robby Fabbri assisting.

Filip Hronek scored another early goal to open the 3rd period, making it a 4-1 game 2:26 into the final frame. Berggren then scored a power play goal 9:05 into the 3rd, making it 5-1 with assists from Larkin and Tyler Bertuzzi. Elias Pettersson scored for the Canucks to cut it to 5-2, but they couldn't muster any more offense.

Lalonde said of the two early goals in the first that "Getting those two goals was huge because there were some points in the rest of the game where we didn't look quite as sharp. We've been starting well of late, even going back before the break. The two months before that, we weren't getting started."

Getting the start in goal for the Red Wings was Ville Husso, who got the win to improve to 19-12-5 in 37 starts. Husso made 32 saves on 34 Vancouver shots, which was good for a solid .941 save percentage in the victory.

Starting opposite Husso for the Canucks was Spencer Martin, who extended his personal losing streak to 10 games. Martin stopped 20 out of the 25 shots he faced from Detroit, recording a .800 save percentage as his record drops to 11-15-1.

Canucks forward Dakota Joshua said of the loss that "Yeah, once again, just a lot of shooting ourselves in the foot tonight. Not the winning recipe that we came into the game with, and then you catch yourself trying to battle back for pretty much 55 minutes of the game. Not a good recipe."

Up next, both teams wrap up a home and home with a Monday night showdown in Vancouver. Husso and Martin are once again expected to start for their respective teams.
