Nice lead you got there. Well guess what, it's gone. David Perron scored the tying goal, Jake Walman scored the winning goal, and the Detroit Red Wings rallied to defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins with a 5-4 overtime victory on Wednesday night in Pittsburgh.

Finding themselves in a 4-0 hole after the opening 20 minutes, the Red Wings made a goalie change and took control of the game, rattling off 5 unanswered goals to topple the Penguins in overtime. Lucas Raymond was the only skater with two points, with Perron and Walman scoring the key goals.

Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde said of the game that "We weren't awful. We weren't 4-0 bad. We outshot them. You come out of that period, chances were probably even. But it's just, we left some key plays out there. We were excellent in the second. We were excellent in the third. We got what we deserved."

Drew O'Connor got the Penguins on the board, scoring his first goal of the season on the Penguins first shot of the game, 2:36 into the game. Jeff Carter followed that up with a power play goal to make it 2-0, and Jason Zucker made it 3-0 with an unassisted goal. Zucker then scored a power play goal to widen the lead to 4-0 on his second goal of the night.

Getting the Red Wings on the board was captain Dylan Larkin, scoring a power play goal 7:17 into period number two, assisted by Raymond and Filip Hronek. Joe Veleno then scored his 5th goal of the season to cut the deficit to 4-2, coming 14:32 into the second with Ben Chiarot and Elmer Soderblom assisting.

Jonatan Berggren kept the rally going for the Red Wings in the 3rd period, making it a one goal game with an unassisted goal. On the power play at the 16:52 mark of the 3rd, Perron tied the game with Raymond and Michael Rasmussen getting assists. Just 2:13 into OT, Walman scored the winning goal to complete the comeback.

Perron said that "We felt like we could build our game, and if anything, take it to tomorrow. It was good we found a way. After we got the second goal, I think the belief kind of got bigger and bigger that we could make it a game here. We found a way. It was great."

Ville Husso got the start in goal for the Red Wings, allowing 4 goals while saving 8 shots. He was pulled after the first period in favor of Magnus Hellberg. Over two periods and OT, Hellberg stopped all 19 shots he faced, moving to 2-1-0 on the season.

Backup goalie Casey DeSmith was in net for the Penguins. DeSmith got the loss to drop to 4-6-2 in 12 starts this season. He made a season high 41 saves on 46 shots, recording a .891 save percentage in the OT loss.

Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan said of the loss that "We just didn't play the game the right way. I mean, it's as simple as that. We didn't play the game the right way. We didn't manage the game. We didn't manage the puck. We're not playing a collective game right now. The game is too difficult if you don't play in a five-man unit out there. For whatever reason the last few games, we're disconnected."

The Red Wings complete a back to back with a Thursday night showdown against the Buffalo Sabres, with Alex Nedeljkovic projected to start. Tristan Jarry is the likely starter for the Penguins against the New Jersey Devils on Friday night.
