The magic of the college rink is rubbing off on the team that plays on it. Lawson Crouse had 3 points, Michael Carcone scored, and the Arizona Coyotes defeated the Colorado Avalanche with a 6-3 victory on Tuesday night in Tempe.

Arizona has now won two games in a row, snapping a 4 game winning streak for the Avalanche at the same time. They are 5-1-1 at their temporary home this season. Crouse had a goal and two assists to pace the Coyotes, with Carcone scoring in his NHL debut. Jakob Chychrun had a 3 assist game as well.

Crouse said of the win that "Right from the drop of puck it seemed like we were ready to go. It was obviously nice to get an early lead and then continue to get leads. It makes hockey a lot more fun and a lot easier, for sure."

Starting the scoring for the Coyotes was Shayne Gostisbehere, who gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead with his 9th goal of the season, assisted by Chychrun and Clayton Keller. Evan Rodrigues then tied the game for the Avalanche with a power play goal. Crouse found the back of the net 11:33 into the game to give the Coyotes a 2-1 lead after one period.

Nick Schmaltz picked up where Crouse left off, scoring a power play goal in the second period to increase the lead to 3-1. Cale Makar scored at the 11:23 mark of the second to cut the deficit to 3-2, assisted by JT Compher and Devon Toews. JJ Moser scored at the 16:38 mark to make the Coyotes lead 4-2 with one period to go.

The 3rd period started with Carcone finding the back of the net, scoring in his NHL debut to make it a 5-2 game. Sam Girard and Erik Johnson assisted on Mikko Rantanen's goal for the Avalanche, cutting the deficit to 5-3. Keller then scored an empty net goal with less than a minute to play, making the final score 6-3 Coyotes.

Carcone said of scoring in his first game that "It feels great. Obviously, scoring a goal is the best thing you can do. The communication out there is unbelievable. They made it easy on me. I had a lot of energy. A little bit of nerves, which I think helped. Felt fresh."

Getting the start and the win for the Coyotes was backup goalie Connor Ingram. He got just his second win of the season to improve to 2-7-1. Ingram made 28 saves on 31 Colorado shots, posting a .903 save percentage.

Starting opposite Ingram was Alexandar Georgiev for the Avalanche. Georgiev stopped only 27 of the 32 shots on goal the Coyotes had, which was good for a .844 save percentage. Georgiev now has a 15-7-2 record following this loss.

Avalanche forward Logan O'Connor said of the loss that "We can't really have any excuses there. I felt like we were 10 minutes hard and 10 minutes off, and you're not really going to successful out there. We dug ourselves a hole right off the bat and we just have to be better in a lot of areas."

Both teams resume their schedules with Thursday night home games. The Coyotes will start Karel Vejmelka in goal as the Toronto Maple Leafs come to town, while the Avalanche host the Los Angeles Kings with Georgiev expected to start.
