It was some international flair that allowed the Motor City team to win. Moritz Seider had a two assist game, Dominik Kubalik scored the winning goal, and the Detroit Red Wings rallied to defeat the New York Rangers with a 3-2 victory on Sunday afternoon in New York.

Trailing 2-0 early on, the Red Wings slowly dug their way out of the hole and emerged with a win in overtime. The Red Wings have now taken home 3 straight wins and possess a 7-3-2 record, sitting in second place in the Atlantic Division, right behind the first place Boston Bruins.

Kubalik said of his overtime goal that "I ended up in front, and I knew that DP just looked at me and I was hoping he was going to just put it there," Kubalik said. "It ended up in the net, so it worked pretty well and I'm very happy about that. We deserved this. We earned it."

Starting the scoring in the first period for the Rangers was Kaapo Kakko, who scored 9:14 into the game to make it 1-0 on his 3rd goal of the season. On the power play at the 16:56 mark of the first, Mika Zibanejad scored to double the lead, with Artemi Panarin and Adam Fox assisting on his 7th goal of the season.

Early in the second period was when the Red Wings started to come back. First, it was Matt Luff, scoring his first goal of the season 2:56 into the period, assisted by Seider and Ben Chiarot. Pius Suter then tied the game at the 8:37 mark of the second, before Kubalik scored on the power play 2:43 into overtime for the win.

Getting the start in goal for the Red Wings was Alex Nedeljkovic, who put together a solid outing to get the win. Nedeljkovic turned aside 27 of the 29 shots the Rangers sent on goal, which was good for a .931 save percentage to improve his record to 2-2-1 in 5 starts this season.

Nedeljkovic said of the comeback win "Down 2-0 in the first can be tough mountain to climb, but we stuck with it. We have an identity that we're trying to form here, and we felt good to get flashes of it so far this year. It's just about doing it every single night. Even if you're not getting the results, it's still playing the right way. That's how you're going to win most nights."

For the Rangers, it was Jaroslav Halak who got the start, taking the overtime loss. Halak turned aside 33 out of the 36 shots on goal from the Red Wings, recording a .917 save percentage as his record dropped to 0-3-1 on the season.

New York captain Jacob Trouba said that "The second period got away from us. That all it takes. You have to find a way to play a whole game. I don't think we've put a real consistent 60 minutes together very often this season. That's what it takes to win in this league. We seem to have decent starts and then the second period gets away from us. Without [Halak], we probably don't get a point tonight."

Up next, the Red Wings get back in action on Tuesday night with a home matchup against the Montreal Canadiens, with Ville Husso the probable starter. Igor Shesterkin is likely to start for the Rangers when they host the New York Islanders on Tuesday night.
