Those Island boys are on quite a roll here. Zach Parise scored two goals, Ryan Pulock had a 4 assist game, and the New York Islanders raced past the Philadelphia Flyers with a 5-2 victory on Saturday night on Long Island.

After a lost season in 2021-2022, the Islanders have come out of the gate strong this season, sitting at a 15-8-0 record and second place in the Metropolitan Division, behind the New Jersey Devils. This latest win also improves their current win streak to 4 games, and they're 7-3-0 in their last 10 games overall.

Pacing the Islanders scoring wise was Parise, who finished with two of the 5 goals scored. Anthony Beauvillier had a two point game as well with a goal and an assist, and Pulock finished with 4 assists. The Islanders also dealt the Flyers their 10th straight loss with the win on Saturday.

Islanders head coach Lane Lambert said of the play of Parise that "He's on the power play, he kills penalties, plays against other teams' top lines. He's very versatile. There's no question about it. I give him full marks. I thought he was one of the catalysts tonight to get us going."

It was Adam Pelech who got the Islanders on the board first, scoring 4:33 into the game to give them a 1-0 lead on his 3rd goal of the season, assisted by Beauvillier. At the 15:27 mark of the first period, Lukas Sedlak scored for the Flyers, tying the game 1-1 on his second goal of the season, assisted by Ivan Provorov and Kevin Hayes.

Hayes and Sedlak picked up assists on the next Flyers goal, scored by Joel Farabee 9:28 into the second period to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead, his 5th goal of the season. On the power play at the 16:38 mark of the second, Parise scored his 6th goal of the season, with the lone assist going to Pulock as the game became tied 2-2.

Early in the 3rd period, Brock Nelson scored to give the Islanders a 3-2 lead just 2:57 into the final period. Just 22 seconds later, the lead was doubled to 4-2 on Beauvillier's 5th goal of the season, coming 3:19 into the period. Parise then scored his second of the night on the power play, making it a 5-2 margin.

After the game, Parise said of the latest win that "We're playing good hockey right now. Philadelphia doesn't make it easy, they work really hard, so it's not always easy to generate, but again, we were able to keep pressing and take over toward the end of the second and into the third."

Getting the start in goal for the Islanders was Semyon Varlamov, who did a solid job in net to preserve the win. Varlamov stopped 26 of 28 shots the Flyers sent towards him, recording a .929 save percentage as his record improved to 5-3-0 this season.

On the other side of the ice, Felix Sandstrom made the start for the Flyers and got stuck with the loss on the road. Sandstrom saved 18 out of the 23 shots on goal from the Islanders, good for just a .783 save percentage as his record dipped to 1-5-1 in 7 starts.

Philadelphia head coach John Tortorella addressed the now double digit losing streak, saying after the game that "There were a few minutes in the third where we lost the hockey game. We are just going to keep banging away at it. I saw a lot of good things tonight. I am not going to criticize the team."

Up next, the teams will complete a home and home series against each other in Philadelphia on Tuesday night. Carter Hart will start for the Flyers, while Ilya Sorokin will go for the Islanders.
