One of the young up and coming NHL goalies has been locked up for a few more years. The Florida Panthers and G Spencer Knight have agreed to a 3 year, $13.5 million extension, according to an announcement by the team.

The interesting wrinkle of this extension is that it coincides with the final years of Sergei Bobrovsky's 7 year contract with the Panthers. With Bobrovsky's already existing contract, paired with Knight's extension, the Panthers have $14.5 million in cap space dedicated to their top two goalies.

Knight will play this season on the final year of his entry level contract. He has a $92,500 signing bonus and $1.85 million in performance bonuses attached to his $832,500 cap hit this season. When his new deal kicks in, he will have a $4.5 million AAV all 3 years, with no incentives. He'll still be an RFA when the deal expires.

Panthers GM Bill Zito said that "Spencer is a phenomenal goaltender, as well as an exceptional athlete and person. He has thrived in his professional career, dedicating himself to his training through his first two seasons with our organization. With this extension, we are excited about the present and future of Panthers goaltending."

Last season was Knight's first full NHL season. He ended the regular season with a 19-9-3 record, combined with a 2.79 GAA and .908 save percentage, making 14 quality starts and recording two shutouts in 27 starts and 5 additional appearances.

Knight has parts of two NHL seasons under his belt. In that time, he has a 23-9-3 record. He has posted a .909 save percentage and 2.74 GAA, with two shutouts and 15 quality starts in 36 career appearances, 30 of which have been starts. Knight briefly saw action in the 2021 playoffs, going 1-1 with a .933 save percentage in two starts.

The extension of Knight caps what has been a busy offseason for the Panthers, who hired Paul Maurice as head coach. They also brought in Matthew Tkachuk while trading away Jonathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weegar.
