One of the reliable faces of the Carolina Hurricanes is now back in the fold. The Hurricanes and C Martin Necas have agreed to a two year, $6 million deal, according to an announcement made by the Hurricanes.

Entering the offseason, Necas was an RFA without arbitration rights, due a new deal after making $863,333 annually over a 3 year deal. He will make $2.5 million this season and $3.5 million in 2022-2023, for an AAV of $3 million. Necas will still be an RFA when the contract expires, but will have arbitration rights.

In a statement announcing the extension, Hurricanes GM Don Waddell said of Necas that "Martin is a dynamic young playmaker. He has an elite combination of speed and skill and we think he'll only continue to improve."

Last season, his 5th with the Hurricanes, Necas ended the year with 14 goals and 26 assists, posting a +5 plus/minus rating in 16:11 of ice time across 78 regular season games. Necas added zero goals and 5 assists in 14 playoff games, with the Hurricanes getting knocked out in the second round by the New York Rangers.

Across 3 full seasons and parts of two other seasons, Necas has 45 goals and 74 assists to his name. He has recorded a +24 plus/minus rating in 15:35 of ice time per game in 203 career regular season games. Necas has 3 goals and 11 assists in 33 career playoff games.

The signing of Necas marks him as the 3rd RFA signed by the Hurricanes, joining Ethan Bear and Maxime Lajoie. This offseason, the Hurricanes have also added Brent Burns, Max Pacioretty, and Dylan Coghlan as they look to make a push for the Stanley Cup.
