One of the lesser risk goalie signings is in the Pacific Northwest. The Seattle Kraken and G Martin Jones have agreed to a one year, $2 million deal, according to an announcement made by the Kraken.
Jones spent last season with the Philadelphia Flyers, after being bought out of the final 3 seasons of his contract by the San Jose Sharks, which was a 6 year extension worth $34.5 million total, for an AAV of $5.75 million. He hit the open market, and signed with the Flyers for $2 million.
Because of that buyout, his remaining payments due by the Sharks will be spread out until 2027, so he'll still be making money from the Sharks. For this season, he's suiting up for a new division rival of the Sharks, and will make $2 million this season with a modified no trade clause, which is a 10 team no trade list submitted by Jones.
Last season with the Flyers, Jones posted a 12-18-3 record in a backup capacity, with a 3.42 GAA and even .900 save percentage, with 15 quality starts among 33 overall starts and two relief appearances for the Flyers, who finished last in the Metropolitan Division with just 61 points last season, a 25-46-11 record.
Across his NHL career, spanning 9 seasons with 3 teams, Jones has a 198-150-32 record, with a 2.68 GAA and .907 save percentage, recording 201 quality starts and 25 shutouts in 387 starts and 9 relief outings. Jones has a 32-27 record with a .917 save percentage and 2.37 GAA in 62 career playoff games, with 60 of them being starts.
The signing of Jones comes as the Kraken had issues with their goalie tandem of Philipp Grubauer and Chris Driedger last season, with Jones looking like the 3rd goalie for the Kraken currently, unless another shoe drops in the Kraken goalie room.
