The key for David Pastrnak was just to get one in the net. Get one he did. Pastrnak scored two goals, Jake Debrusk scored, and the Boston Bruins defeated the Colorado Avalanche with a 5-1 win in Boston on Monday afternoon.

Pastrnak said after the game that "Sometimes you just need to get one to kind of flush whatever happened before. I felt good going into the game, I love afternoon games. The goal the other day helped me. I had been fighting it lately, so it's a good bounce back."

After having not scored in 4 games, Pastrnak has now scored 3 goals in his last two games, including the OT winner on Saturday against the Ottawa Senators. Pastrnak also contributed an assist for a 3 point night, and linemate Taylor Hall had a 3 assist game for the Bruins, who are 3-1-1 in their last 5 games, their only two losses coming to the New York Rangers and New York Islanders.

Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron also had a goal and an assist for a two point night. It was the 223rd multi point game of his career, good for the 6th most in Bruins history, with Ray Bourque ahead with 388 multi point games, the most in team history.

It was Pastrnak who got the Bruins on the board, scoring his 26th goal of the season with 2:30 left in the opening period, making it 1-0 with Bergeron and Charlie McAvoy assisting. Bergeron doubled the lead 8:01 into the second period, making it a 2-0 game with assists from Hall and Matt Grzelcyk. Nathan MacKinnon got the Avs on the board with a power play goal a few minutes later, making it a 2-1 game.

But then, Pastrnak followed that up with his second goal of the night at the 14:35 mark of the second, making the lead 3-1 with assists from Hall and Brandon Carlo. Just 1:07 later, Debrusk got on the board for the Bruins, with his 8th goal of the season making it a 4-1 game. Charlie Coyle scored on the power play 4:04 into the 3rd period to make it 5-1, which sealed the win.

Pastrnak said of the important win against Colorado that "We are talking full games, 60 minutes, and we just stayed in the moment. We were really energized, and it was a great game for us. It was a big two points."

It was Jeremy Swayman who made his second straight start for the Bruins, after getting the win against Ottawa. He followed that up with another win, this time saving 28 of 29 shots the Avs sent his way. That was good for a .966 save percentage, one of his best marks of the season, with his record improving to 11-7-3 in 21 starts this season.

The opposing goalie was Colorado's Darcy Kuemper, who was a very busy man in this game. Kuemper faced 45 shots from the Bruins offensive attack, stopping only 40 of them, posting a .889 save percentage. With the loss, Kuemper's record drops to 25-6-2 on the season.

Avalanche captain Gabe Landeskog said postgame that "They were good tonight. We weren't on our A game. When you have one team that plays their best and one team that doesn't, then it's going to be lopsided at the end of the day. We know we're a better team than we showed tonight. We'll get back on track here Wednesday."

The Bruins head on a west coast road trip, beginning on Thursday against the Seattle Kraken, with Linus Ullmark lined up to start. The Avalanche take on the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday night, with Kuemper expected to draw the start again.
