After parting ways with Rick Tocchet, the Arizona Coyotes were in the market for a new head coach. Now, they have their guy. The Coyotes have announced Andre Tourigny as their newest head coach, first broken by Pierre Lebrun of TSN. The Coyotes have confirmed the hire.

Coyotes GM Bill Armstrong said "We are very pleased to name AndrĂ© as the new head coach of the Arizona Coyotes. AndrĂ© is a tremendous person and one of the best young coaches in the game today. He is a winner, a great teacher and a strong communicator who has a proven track record of developing young talent. We are confident that he is the right person to lead our team on the ice and we are thrilled to have him in our organization."

Tourigny becomes the 19th head coach in Coyotes history with his hiring now official. He is also the 8th head coach of the Coyotes since they relocated to Arizona from Winnipeg in 1996. The exact terms of his contract were not disclosed.

Tourigny said "It is an honor to be named as the head coach of the Arizona Coyotes. I would like to thank Mr. Meruelo, Bill Armstrong and Xavier Gutierrez for providing me with this incredible opportunity. I am looking forward to working with this group and our players to build a winning culture here in the desert for our loyal and passionate fan base."

Tourigny brings to Arizona lots of experience coaching junior hockey. He has been the head coach of the Ottawa 67's in the OHL since 2017. Before landing with the 67's, he was head coach of the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL for one season, and the GM/head coach of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies for 11 seasons, also in the QMJHL. He also has stints as assistant coach with the Ottawa Senators and Colorado Avalanche at the NHL level.

Armstrong said "We're excited about him leading this franchise in the new era. He has a proven track record of developing young talent, and not only developing young talent, but getting young talent to win. He's a man with great passion and excitement for the game of hockey. What I like about him is that he brings accountability and likability."
