Rod Brind'Amour isn't going anywhere. The Carolina Hurricanes and Brind'Amour have agreed to a 3 year contract extension, according to a press release by the team. Brind'Amour took over the team at the conclusion of the 2017-2018 season, and has played a big role in their turnaround.

Hurricanes president and general manager Don Waddell said that "Rod has been the driving force behind the culture change we've undergone here. He keeps our players motivated, demands accountability, and has our team ready to compete every night. He has truly raised the bar for our organization, and we're thrilled to have him continue as our coach for years to come."

In 3 seasons, Brind'Amour has compiled a 120-66-20 record, and has led the Hurricanes to the playoffs every season he has coached. In his first season, they made it all the way to the Eastern Conference Final. In the years following, they have been eliminated in the first and second rounds, respectively. Brind'Amour is also a finalist for the Jack Adams award this season, given to the best coach in the NHL.

Brind'Amour said of staying with the Hurricanes that "I would have a hard time thinking I could do the same job I'm doing here somewhere else. I've been here forever and again, it's more about the people that I get to come to work with every day. That wouldn't be the case somewhere else. It just wouldn't be, so it's special to me. It just didn't enter my mind that I would leave because, with what we've got going on here, I want to see it through. We still have another level to get to and that's the mission."

Carolina, despite being eliminated in the second round this season, was the top seed in the Central Division, beating out the Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers, and Nashville Predators for the top spot. In the last 3 seasons, the Hurricanes have also won the 6th most games in the NHL, trailing the Lightning, Bruins, Capitals, Golden Knights, and Penguins.
