Tampa Bay leads series 1-0
Game one between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Carolina Hurricanes was a tight game throughout, pretty evenly matched. Until Barclay Goodrow showed up. Brayden Point scored, Goodrow scored the game winner, and the Lightning defeated the Hurricanes 2-1 Sunday afternoon.

Lightning coach Jon Cooper said of Goodrow that "He usually doesn’t get his accolades from getting game winning goals. He’s usually the guy stopping game tying goals from happening. So you’re really happy for guys that are team first players and have an opportunity to bask a little bit in the limelight.”

Point started the scoring 8:15 into the second period, with his 5th goal of the playoffs making it 1-0 Tampa Bay. In the 3rd, Jake Bean scored for the Hurricanes, his first playoff goal tying it at 1-1. Goodrow then made it 2-1 12:39 into the 3rd, giving the Lightning the win.

Goodrow said of his goal that "Coleman made a good play on the boards to win that battle. The puck came to me, I saw Gourde drive the net, so I was really looking to get the puck on net and create the rebound for him. It just found a way to get in.”

Andrei Vasilevskiy put up another dominant outing in goal for the Lightning as they took the first game, stopping 37 of 38 shots, for a .974 save percentage, keeping Carolina at bay all night long.

Alex Nedeljkovic got the loss in goal for the Hurricanes, despite also putting up stellar numbers. Nedeljkovic saved 28 out of 30 shots, for a .933 save percentage.

Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour said of the loss that “We were fine. We just made some mental errors. Our execution can be better on some things. It was a pretty good game for us. It’s a tough way to end it, but I thought we were ok.”

Game 2 takes place in Raleigh on Tuesday, with Vasilevskiy and Nedeljkovic going at it again.
