Scoring from the depth is always essential to Stanley cup winning teams. The Dallas Stars almost got it last year. Now, they want another shot. Tanner Kero scored his first goal of the season, Andrej Sekera added a goal, and the Stars shut out the Detroit Red Wings with a 3-0 win on Saturday.

Kero started the scoring for the Stars later in the game, making it 1-0 Stars at the 17:22 mark of the second period. In the 3rd, Sekera scored to lengthen the Stars lead to 2-0 at the 8:16 mark of the 3rd. After that, 13:43 into the 3rd, Ty Dellandrea scored a power play goal to make it 3-0 Dallas, a lead they held on to.

Stars coach Rick Bowness talked about the young guys, Kero and Dellandrea, scoring, saying that "With the schedule we're on, with the injuries that we have, you need your young players to step up. Ty's power-play goal, Kero's goal, you need those things to happen if we're going to have any success."

Anton Khudobin got the start for the Stars in this one, putting together a perfect performance for the Stars. Khudobin stopped all 21 shots that came his way in this one, continuing his great run as starting goalie, since Ben Bishop just hasn't come back. Khudobin increased his record to 6-8-1 with the win, while Dallas has a 10-10-7 record, 6th place in the Central Division.

Kero said of the lineup shuffling that "It's big whenever you can get contributions from throughout your lineup. Our big guys are going to get their goals, so whenever you can get contributions from your bottom six or whoever it might be, that obviously helps. But I think our team effort, we were all over the ice working hard together."

On the other side of the ice, Thomas Greiss got the start in net for the Red Wings, being hit with the loss. Greiss stopped 30 shots out of 33 that came his way during the game. Greiss's record fell to 2-12-4 on the season, while Detroit is dead last in the Central Division, with a 10-18-4 record.

Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said of the loss that "It was a tight checking game for lots and lots of the game. There wasn't a whole lot of chances either way, they're consistently one of the best teams in the League defensively, so they're very, very hard to create against. We knew that going into the series. Ultimately, we probably gave them the opportunities."

The Stars play again tonight, against the Nashville Predators, with Khudobin getting the start in net. The Red Wings next game is also against the Predators, but on Tuesday. Greiss is slated to start for Detroit.
